Performing Arts Mission (PAM) is a new initiative of the Plymouth and Devonport Methodist Circuit, bringing churches together for creative mission and community. In January 2020, Anne Middleton was employed as the Performing Arts Mission Enabler (PAME) to launch this pioneer ministry. PAM aims to connect and collaborate with other creative Christians living locally. Due to COVID-19 and the focus of online ministry, PAM has been able to collaborate with Christian artists nationally and to provide resources around the Methodist Connexion, as well as other denominations around the country (and world!)

The plans for ‘live’ theatre and creative projects have obviously changed due to the current situation, but there are several large productions in the pipeline as well as the launch of Hope Theatre Café (HTC) – a professional venue for Christian performers – when we are able to get together again.

Resources: The Performing Arts Mission Enabler is available as a resource for the Plymouth and Devonport Methodist Circuit, to support worship and events with creative content. We are enthusiastic about collaborating with other local churches and organisations in Plymouth. Throughout this difficult season, the PAME has produced online material for churches. PERFORMING ARTS MISSION ENABLER

Anne Middleton started her role as Performing Arts Mission Enabler (PAME) on 2nd January 2020. Anne created the PAM logo – a spotlight on the cross – because she is passionate about the power of theatre and the arts to touch the soul and transform lives, with the message of the hope we have in Jesus. What we do…

HOPE THEATRE CAFÉ

Hope Theatre Café is a professional venue for audience members to have a night out and relax with a coffee (or tea) and slice of delicious home-made cake, whilst watching quality theatre / music / performance, without having to go into the City Centre. Hope Theatre Café provides a non-threatening venue for all people – especially those who wouldn’t usually attend a church. All artists are professional Christian performers who bring a message of the hope they have in Jesus in their own unique way – be that through theatre, comedy, music or magic!

ART EXHIBITIONS

PAM is waiting to be able to host our first Art Exhibition. Featuring Jacqui Parkinson’s dramatic textiles, Marine de Villepin’s photos, audio-art from Anne Middleton (PAM), along with a range of other fascinating art forms, this should be an event for all the senses. Through art exhibitions, PAM aims to engage the community in reflection on spiritual themes; to encourage and promote Christian artists, especially those living locally; and to engage local schools in themed art, with an opportunity to have their work displayed as part of a professional exhibition.

WORKSHOPS

PAM aims to hold a range of workshops to give people a taster of different art forms, including: art, drama, dance and singing. The workshops will encourage people ‘to have a go’ and to express themselves. There will also be more advanced workshops for those who are looking to further their skills…

PRODUCTIONS

PAM is passionate about creating quality theatre with a message of hope. An important part of this is the circuit productions – uniting churches, within the circuit and surrounding areas, to come together for mission and community. The first circuit production of Anne Middleton’s play, ‘Passion’, which is postponed from 2020 due to COVID restrictions, will go ahead (God-willing!) Holy Week 2022.
