Regents Theological College Creative Community

Did you know that Regents Theological College runs a degree in Applied Theology and Performing Arts?

This 3-year BA (Hons) programme combines elements of a traditional drama school with associated modules in theology.

The performing arts degree is geared to give those who have been gifted in performance the opportunity to hone their skills in an affirming atmosphere; and in a place that puts Christ at the centre of all they do.

Led by a group of tutors and visiting lecturers, who have all had professional experience as actors, writers, and directors, as well as teaching practical skills, the course explores the interaction between performance and theology, in seeing how these two disciplines enrich and inform one another.

The course comes under the initiative of Regents’ Creative Community, which brings together both established theatre practitioners and people who are just starting out on their creative journey, to share in everything they enjoy as performers and theatre makers who are also Christians.

Regents is the Elim Pentecostal Churches training centre, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in a range of disciplines, and is an academic partner with the University of Chester.

Alongside their undergraduate degree they are also developing a new MA in Theological Imagination and the Arts. Drawing inspiration from the lives and works of the Oxford Inklings (C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Owen Barfield and Charles Williams), as well as the wider context of Christian literature this new program seeks to follow in their footsteps, inspiring a new generation of Christian artists and thinkers to produce creative work of excellence, theological richness and depth.

As a relatively small community of creative people based in Malvern, they also work closely with Searchlight Theatre Company, 4front Theatre Company, Saltmine, and Riding Lights Theatre Company, but they are always looking to meet new people and work together to promote each other’s work as performers, artists, and theatre makers to a wider audience.
